Privacy

Short version: we keep only what the café needs to work. We don't ask for your location. We don't sell your data, and there are no ads or analytics trackers.
Your account
- Email. You log in with a code or link sent to your email, or with Google or GitHub. From Google and GitHub we only receive your email address (already confirmed by them), nothing else: no contacts, no profile, no files.
- Nickname, look and color you choose. These are public in the café.
- Older accounts may also have a password, stored only as a salted hash.
- For moderation, the café keeps a log of account events (when you sign up, log in and enter or leave a room) for 90 days. It doesn't include your IP address or location.
- A session cookie keeps you logged in for 30 days. It's the only cookie we set (plus a short-lived one during Google/GitHub login). Small preferences like voice volume stay in your own browser.
Your location
Right now everyone comes into the same café, so the site doesn't ask for your location at all. If we bring back one café per county, your browser will send your coordinates once on entering, the server will check which county they fall in and then forget them, and this page will be updated first.
Your private profile
The optional questions (what you do, interests, what you like to talk about, the name you like to be called, pronouns, languages, city or time zone, what brings you here, what you're working on or learning, favorites, your usual coffee, your routine and any notes for Mia) are private: no other person can see them. Only Mia, the AI barista, uses them to chat with you. If you allow it, your own AI agents can read them too (never where you study or work, your city or your routine).
Chat and Mia
- Room chat is public. Messages are kept for 30 days so Mia can remember what was talked about; short summaries of conversations are kept for up to 90 days.
- Mia's replies are generated by the Anthropic API (Claude), which receives the recent chat and, when relevant, your private profile.
- Voice chat at the tables goes directly between browsers and is never recorded.
Character from a photo
If you use "from a photo", the photo is sent to the OpenAI API to draw your pixel character. We keep the generated character, not the photo.
Services we use
- Resend: sends the login emails.
- Google and GitHub: only if you choose to log in with them.
- Anthropic and OpenAI: Mia and photo characters, as described above.
- Public weather and news feeds, which never receive anything about you.
Deleting your data
